Frequently asked questions:
Q: Do I have to join to attend a meeting?
A:  No! Except in certain circumstances where we have a special speaker or workshop, our meetings are open to the public. We encourage you to attend as a guest and see if we are a good fit for you before joining.

Q:  Does membership in the BMQG include membership in the national Modern Quilt Guild?
A:  Yes! When you join the BMQG, your membership will also be updated by our treasurer into the global MQG member database. Please note that this is a manual process that is, unfortunately, not real-time. We make every effort to update member data quickly, but if you expect to be enrolling within the next week in an MQG event that requires proof of active membership, please send us an email to let us know so we can be sure you are added in time.

Q: I'm new to quilting. Am I still welcome?
A: Absolutely. Our members have varied skill levels and areas of expertise, whether they are making their 1st or 101st quilt. However, we are all equal in our passion for quilting and love to share/learn from one another!

Q: Do you teach quilting at your meetings?
A: Our meetings do not take the place of a beginning quilting class. That said, we occasionally have a lecture/demonstration on a quilting related topic or specific technique demonstrated at meetings. Our members are also wealth of information and have advice to give. Bring your questions to the next meeting and someone is sure to have an answer!

Q: What is modern quilting?
A: This is a hotly debated topic. Generally, modern quilts are characterized by the use of bold colors, improvisational piecing, use of negative space, or minimalist design. Our guild takes an inclusive view of modern quilting. In other words, we choose not to label quilts as modern or otherwise and do not discriminate based on the modern-ness of your quilting style.
